As 4th generation owners of our beautiful farm, it’s important to us to preserve the proud family tradition of farming and working this land.
In 1910, when Maud and Joe Rau first made their home here on Georgetown Road, this community was made up of close knit family farms. In 1971, the state’s flood control project came through and purchased almost 2000 acres of local land in order to dam Sandy Creek and create Lake Wilhelm. Since that time, the local industry has been evolving from mostly agriculture to primarily tourism.
Wineries, campgrounds, marinas and bike trails are mingled with scenic barns & farms, and country roads. Lake Wilhelm is a popular boating and fishing destination. Eagle watching is a popular pastime with our thriving bald eagle population and close to 20 active nests in the area.
Small family farms growing traditional crops and raising traditional farm animals are finding it increasingly difficult to survive. We decided we needed to look into less traditional farm crops; that’s when we stumbled onto a lavender farm and fell in love with it. This was the UNCONVENTIONAL crop we were looking for. After doing much reading, research, planning and worrying, in the spring of 2017, we planted our first 500 lavender plants.
Currently we have over 600 zone 5 hardy English and French lavender plants growing, and we are field testing more varieties to grow.
We’re also working on restoring the 100+ year old Century farmhouse on our farm, come and see our progress! Unfortunately the original 1900 era barn didn’t survive to present day, but the original milk house is still standing. Our gift shop opened May of 2019 in the authentic milk house. Our shop has a selection of lavender products and lavender plants for sale along with a unique selection of vintage collectibles, architectural salvage pieces, primitive antiques, pottery & glassware.
At this time our farm and the farm shop are open to the public weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day and by appointment the rest of the year. You can purchase our products online and also find our products at local craft shows through the area.
