What a gorgeous fall we are having! I probably say this every year, but I think this year’s leaves are exceptionally colorful!
With this great fall weather, we’ve been busy at the lavender farm. Since the farm & shop closed for the season on Labor Day, we’ve been working nonstop. The house remodel is coming along nicely – we’re almost done and hope to move in soon. But we still have a seemingly never ending list of hardscaping and landscaping projects outside.
We finally rebuilt our stone wall around the patio – this wall was originally the old banked barn foundation. Some of the foundation/wall was in decent shape yet, including the wall from the barn hill. But much of the stone foundation has been deteriorating since our barn fell down 20-30 years ago, plus part of the wall had to be moved when we did some excavating a couple years ago. We’ve been slowly working on moving the stones back in place, but the huge stones are difficult to move and place.
It took a while to find the right person to take on the task of moving & restacking stones that weigh hundreds of pounds. We eventually hired an Amish stone mason named Henry. Along with his son, Henry created a work of art for us. With only a few basic tools, the two of them moved, stacked, and created the most amazing wall! I couldn’t be happier with their creation!
The other project that we’ve been working on this fall is tearing down and replacing our old garage/barn/shed. It was an eyesore and was worthless for storing anything of value. Our new barn/garage has room for our cars, equipment, tools, and a loft for overflow from the shop. And we can hold our events and workshops inside out of the weather when need be.
The barn is getting done just in time for our first autumn event at the farm, Witch’s Night Out! Saturday October 31st, from 3-8 we’ll have food, fun, contests, door prizes, and music!
